This propaganda poster promotes the 4th Liberty Loan in Australia during the Second World War. It was launched in October 1943 to support war expenditure. The 3rd Liberty Loan campaign employed shock tactics with the use of graphic black and white images of casualties of war, presenting a very bleak picture of the war’s progress to the Australian public. The subsequent campaign, the 4th Liberty Loan, is in stark contrast as it uses a wry humour to depict a money-pilfering woman, foiled by the patriotism of her male partner. It is unclear what the relationship is between the two characters in this poster, but the message is clear: the woman is depicted as a dumb blonde out for herself and the man as having done his civic duty by investing his spare change in the Liberty Loan.
