This is one of a series of posters created for the Loterie Nationale (National Lottery) in France by a team of artists known as Derouet-Lesacq. In these posters, the element of simplicity is emphasized, allowing the artists to apply detail to the array of environments that these posters are set in. This Art Deco style poster is for a special flower themed lottery drawing. The man in the center of the image is holding up his gardening tool as he admires a beautiful flower made of lottery tickets. The suggestion here is you would have all of the time in the world to do all of your gardening. The French Government promoted a nationwide lottery for many years, and during the 1930’s they commissioned artist Edgar Derouet to create many of their posters. Derouet realized his posters either alone or with one of his many collaborators. This poster is the result of a collaboration with Charles Lesacq, who worked with Derouet from 1938 to 1940.
